Review| ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Avenue
2:53 AMKylie just launched 4 new red lip kits featuring 2 mattes and 2 velvets which makes us Sri Lankans red with envy as they don't ship to Sri Lanka. Somehow we make up for it thanks to ColourPop. Reasons to love the brand you ask? a) they ship to Sri Lanka, b) the local ColourPop website ships available products super fast, and c) needless to say the low price tags of ColourPop products makes the process of shopping so worthwhile. Their Ultra Matte Lip in Avenue is a red hue that anyone can rock.
Price: $6.50 (Roughly around Rs. 1,028)
NET WT: 3.2g (0.11oz)
This thin, lightweight formula smoothly glides on the lips leaving SUPER intense pigment with a bold, ultra-matte look. It is very long-wearing and 100% kiss-proof AKA no transferring!
The boldest formula of our liquid lipsticks - in one smooth swipe, you’ll get intense color payoff that dries down to a super matte, transfer-proof finish.
Avenue is described as a "dark blood red"
Packaging:
The liquid lipstick comes in a box which bears the ColourPop logo and the name of the product, with the name of the shade on the side. The product is packed in a clear tube with a silver cap. It bears the name of the brand in their typical holographic silver print.
The name of the shade is clearly stated on the bottom.
Wear:
Avenue is described as a dark blood red which I think is accurate for the most part. I would also say it looks a bit like a strawberry red in different light conditions. It has a neutral undertone. Either way the colour compliments tan skin tones incredibly well. It has that one swipe excellent pigmentation we all look for in a lip colour. You might want to use a lip liner to be more precise around the edges cause it is afterall in the red/ dark lip colour category.
The formula is true to its claims of being thin and lightweight, hence it glides with ease. It does transfer but doesn't remove the lip colour. I noticed that only the product in the outline of the lip kept transferring the most, as opposed to the filled in colour. Because of its lightweight quality, it was really comfortable to wear, and I did not find it to be too drying or flaky when set. I did notice a few crumbles after I had my breakfast, and a few too many Ginger Beer and Orange concoctions.
It lasted around 6 hours in general on my lips. Applied in the morning, it powered through a breakfast of string hoppers and chicken curry (which is oily). I noticed only minor signs of fading on the inner part of my lips, and that too was very even. In addition, the lipstick left a tint so I didn't feel the need to reapply at this point. There were definite signs that I should re-apply after a lunch of spicy chicken ramen noodles.
Re-application was tricky because applying one coat on top of the other made it looked cakey, as if I've just done a '100 coats of lipstick' challenge. Maybe that sounds too dramatic. Nevertheless, I think it is better to remove most, if not all, of the remaining lipstick before applying a fresh coat on top. However, if you are not consuming oily foods throughout the day, you wouldn't even have to reapply.
Absolutely! If you're looking for a red for a night-out, then you have to pick this up. I think this lipstick performed exceptionally well, and this is a red that anyone can pull off because of its neutral undertones.
